ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed Standard for Additive Manufacturing Posted: 04 Oct 2010 10:51 AM PDT Previous | Next   Printer-friendly ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed Standard for Additive Manufacturing New York  September 29, 2010 DIN, the German member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has submitted a proposal to ISO for a new standard on additive manufacturing - rapid technologies (rapid prototyping). As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by November 5, 2010. According to the new work item proposal, the standard would cover the principal considerations that apply to the design, fabrication, and assessment of parts produced by additive fabrication. It would specify terms and definitions, deal with the fundamentals of the processes involved, and specify their requirements and selection criteria. It would also specify relevant quality parameters and explain in detail component testing and the drawing up of supply agreements. Additional information would address safety-related and environmental aspects. The proposed standard would: differentiate between additive and conventional processes facilitate improved assessment of different additive processes specify the quality parameters of different processes specify appropriate test procedures recommend the scope and content of test and supply agreements All comments should be sent to Steven P. Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy (isot@ansi.org). Feedback received by the November 5 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comments, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) for formal approval.
